On July 17th, Meituan launched a halal public dual-box delivery service in Gansu Province, sparking an uproar across China. The vast majority of vocal Han Chinese netizens fiercely opposed the move and organized campaigns to uninstall the Meituan app and flood it with one-star reviews.
The reasoning behind this backlash was clear: it was seen as naked racial discrimination—absolutely intolerable—and it fueled continuous attacks against Muslims.
This isn’t really my area of expertise, but as a member of the Communist Party of China, I still have some thoughts on the matter.
Religious issues have always been tricky. Most ethnic minority communities are relatively united—far more so than the Han majority—and when conflicts arise, they become very difficult to manage.
I’ve traveled to Tibetan, Uyghur, and other halal-designated regions several times. The Han Chinese I met locally complained more than once that ethnic minorities were hard to govern, and when they didn’t follow “orders,” the only option was to deal with them “leniently.”
Why can’t we Han people be more united? Why must we always fight among ourselves instead of standing together against external challenges?
After all, Meituan is fundamentally a Han-owned company. Couldn’t this move simply be understood as a business decision? Isn’t it perfectly fine for Han entrepreneurs to pursue Muslim customers?
So far, I haven’t seen any comments or reactions from the Muslim community on this issue. Most of what I’ve encountered has been spectators watching from the sidelines.

7月17号美团在甘肃开辟了清真大众双箱配送，在国内引起了轩然大波，绝大多数发声的汉人同胞极力反对这种行为，并开展了卸载美团和一星评价行动。
大家的出发点很明确，这是赤裸裸的种族歧视，绝对不能容忍，并不断对穆斯林的种种进行攻击。
这本不是我的专业范围，但对于作为一名中国共产党党员，我还是有些态度的。
宗教问题一直以来都很棘手，而且少数民族同胞大多数比较团结，比汉族团结多了，出了事情处理起来非常麻烦。
我曾几度前往藏区、维区和其他清真地区，在当地的接触到的汉人都曾不止一次抱怨过，少数民族不好管，如果他们不听从”指挥”也只能”宽大处理”。
为什么我们汉人就不能团结点？就不能不窝里斗，去窝外斗斗？
美团毕竟是汉人的公司啊，这种行为难道不能理解成商业行为么，汉族商人去做点穆斯林的生意不是挺好的嘛？
到目前为止，我还没有看到穆斯林在这个问题上有何评论和感想，见到的大多数是吃瓜群众。
